As I look at the increasing number of predictions for next year, one that keeps popping up is the idea that SEO is dead. Or not. It’s hard to tell, isn’t it? The problem with predictions is that we don’t actually know what will happen. Look at all the predictions in the past, and the number of really funny ones about “the future” are the stuff of comedy.
Here’s My SEO Prediction For 2015
SEO is growing up. It is different now than it was five years ago, and the search engines will continue to change as they try to be what delivers the results the user is searching for. Babies are different than kids. Kids are different than teens. Teens are different than adults. But it doesn’t mean the baby died when it became the kid or the kid died with the arrival of adolescence or that the teen died with maturity.
You can have a different kind of conversation with the same person as they grow, right? Your nephew, for example, goes from the gurgles & coos of baby talk to the ability to speak your language, then one day you realize you interact with him on the same level. The little kid got big.
This is what I see in SEO. We are seeing search engines diligently working to add relevancy and context to keywords and code so that the interaction is more on the same level. We see the conversation getting more complicated as things like link building change, but that’s like the conversation between individuals who have different backgrounds. The conversation still happens, but it happens best when those backgrounds are acknowledged and communication techniques get past the differences.
What do you think? How are the changes in SEO affecting your marketing?
