Search engine optimization is constantly changing. The way things are done today are not the way they were done 10 years ago. They’ll likely be different 10 years from now.
A few years ago, no one thought about social media. It didn’t exist. There weren’t any social media strategies. There were SEO strategies, but they didn’t involve social media. Today, if you want to push your website up in the search engine rankings, then you need to think about these four optimization areas.
- Content marketing – First and foremost, you should look at your on-page and off-site content. Is it well-written? Are you targeting a particular audience? Narrow your focus and optimize your content for a particular niche audience.
- Technical SEO – Even bad content can rank for keywords. Even the right keywords. But if you really want to accentuate your search engine marketing efforts, then you need to get aggressive with technical SEO. Great content + technically sound SEO is the best strategy you can have.
- Links – The search engines scrutinize links a lot more heavily than they used to. Make sure that all of your links are quality links. You may need to go through and disavow a few of them. At any rate, you need to evaluate your link portfolio.
- Social media – Going forward, companies without a social media strategy are going to fall into obscurity. It is a near necessity now. It will be an absolute necessity in another couple of years.
How are you doing in these four areas? Perhaps it’s time to evaluate your overall online marketing strategy.
