Negative content about you or your company can stress you out. First, analyze the content so you can separate fact from fiction. Often, people have a legitimate complaint but overreact. You need to be able to take responsibility for anything that your customers have a legitimate beef about. Otherwise, your could end up with a worse reputation.
When you do undergo a reputation management campaign, don’t just litter the search results with a bunch of spammy content in an attempt to outrank the negative mentions. You have to be a little more savvy than that. Your best bet is to list all the content that you have within the next four pages of the search results for all the keywords the negative content is ranking for. Make sure you note which results are on separate domains. A simple link building campaign could drive some of those results higher in the search results to overtake the negative results.
You should also be prepared to create new content. Write a few blog posts, guest blog on another blog or two (or three or four), and create a few social media mentions.
The key to solid reputation management is to not lose your head. Keep it level and develop an aggressive content strategy.
