When it comes to research, you should make sure you are being thorough. Your goal is to gather information you can use in your marketing, information that is actionable. Here are three types of research you should conduct to ensure your online marketing is everything you expect it to be.
- Competitor research – Your competition is not going to wait around for you to get your marketing in order. They are out there right now conducting their own marketing campaigns. Follow your competition on social media, look at their content strategies, and find out how they operate in key customer interaction areas. Where are they falling short? What opportunities are they leaving open for you?
- Market research – Market research is more about what is being said in social media circles by suppliers, competitors, customers, etc., what keywords are most profitable for your niche, and what trends are emerging in the market.
- Customer research – What do customers expect from a company like yours? What products are they using, what are their price and customer service expectations. Scour the forums and Q&A sites to see what questions people are asking and what they’re saying.
Conduct a thorough research campaign and be sure to get as much actionable information as possible before you start marketing.
