Hashtags are becoming more and more universal every day. As a way to organize social information on Twitter, hashtags became very popular on that social media platform and still are. What was not expected was other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google+ picking up on hashtags.

That’s four social networks that use hashtags. According to Hashtags.org, there are at least 12 websites that make use of hashtags. One of those is a network of websites.

I think it’s just a matter of time before other social media sites pick up on hashtags. And it’s possible that the search engines could develop search verticals to make searching for hashtags easier to search so that social media users and searchers can find the information they want to find. Hashtags were developed to provide a means for social media users to organize and find information on topics that are important to them.
