What is the true meaning of content? In the old days of the Internet, it was your text and photos. That was about it. But today, content has a rather broad view.
Content has moved beyond the web page. It is now anything that you develop for the purpose of interacting with the marketplace, and that includes your iPhone applications. Truly.
Here is a list of items that I could include in the definition of content:
- On-page text
- Social media text, photos, and videos
- Downloadable applications
- Interactive games
- Inbound links
This is just a smattering. I’m sure you can come up with your own. But small business owners have to get creative in the ways that we develop content and in what that content is designed for.
Of course, not all content is created equal. But I want to talk about inbound links for a second. This is a category of content that many SEOs don’t consider content. But if you consider that inbound links refers to content you create on other websites and link back to your own, then I’d certainly call that content. I’m referring to articles, guest blog posts, and other such content.
What are you as a small business owner doing to expand your vision of content?
