Mashable reports that Facebook has updated its Like button to include the features and functions of the old Share button. Does that require a big “so what?”
Actually, this could be a big boost to your content on Facebook. Users previously weren’t sure what to expect from the Like button. When users Liked your content all that happened was a link to your article appeared on their Facebook walls, but those links often got lost in the shuffle. Now, when users Like your content, a full story including a headline, a thumbnail, and a short blurb will appear on the user’s wall. That could lead to more clicks, but only time will tell.
Innovation and continuous improvement are necessary when socializing your online content and Facebook seems to understand that. If the Like button gets to be more popular than it already is, it could replace those old Share buttons completely. There are already a ton of bloggers and online content sites that are using the Like button alongside a Tweet button. This can only grow in number.
The Like button is a great way to encourage users to share your content, which leads to more traffic. If you’re not using is already, you might want to add it now.
