SEOBook has a great post today on running an ongoing SEO campaign for a small business on a shoestring budget. Most of the tips are right on target. Unfortunately, I can’t vouch for all of the resources recommended or I might be more bold than that. The good news for a small business owner is you can run your own ongoing SEO campaign for $600 a year.
Here’s what guest author Vanilla Coke has to say:
Hopefully you can avoid a lot of unnecessary costs upfront which should help you with holding off on going commercial. We covered most aspects of getting started and ongoing tracking here, with a total 12/mo cost of less than $600!
Here’s the downside: You’ll end up spending a lot of time doing things yourself that you could pay someone else for and see better results.
It’s not that I don’t trust you can do it yourself. It’s more that I think you’re so busy running your business that you might not have the time to do all the things that are suggested in the post. Even if you do find the time to do them, how effective would you be? You’ll have to take the time to learn how to conduct effective SEO and implement what you learn. The time it takes to learn how to SEO your own website could result in lost dollars in the process. You might find it more profitable to hire a small business marketing expert who understands SEO to assist you in reaching your goals.
But if you really want to handle your own SEO, then at least follow the right guides. Don’t be snookered.
