It looks like Jim Tobin has created a new list to follow, and whose top spot could become one of the most coveted positions on the Web. I’m talking about the Facebook Fan Page Top 50 list.
So why would anyone want to be on this list? Because Facebook is the most trafficked social media website on the Web.
Doesn’t everyone want to be the top dog on the top social site online? That’s the grand prize, isn’t it?
Actually, since Facebook is now considered one of the top online marketing channels, it behooves most businesses to figure out how to use it for maximum marketing advantage. The key to that advantage is to build a successful fan page, one that draws attention to itself and that get people talking. It should also be interactive, if possible.
So the top 10 of the top 50 on this year’s list include:
- Facebook (surprise!)
- Coca Cola
- Red Bull
- Converse All Stars
Note that these are ranked by number of fans and that the ranking is based solely on that criteria alone. Of those, the only one in the top 10 this year that was not in the top 10 last year is MTV. Victoria’s Secret fell off the top 10 list to number 11.
While I think value in terms of branding is about more than mere popularity, I do think Jim Tobin is onto something in measuring the top brands on Facebook. I think this is a list to look forward to each year. What do you think?
