Google has announced that site speed is now a factor for ranking websites. This is both good news and bad news depending on whether or not your site loads fast or not. Here’s why I think it’s good news:
From a user perspective, fast loading sites are more valuable. If your site loads slowly then I won’t want to stick around and see what you’ve got. After a couple of seconds, I’m done.
From a site owner’s perspective, faster load time could mean fewer maintenance problems. That could mean less outlay in maintaining your websites overall so it will save you money in the long run. Plus, if your visitors are happy then they will return to your site again and again.
Google has always had an interest in improving the web. I guess this is another way they can do that.
