For about ten years, SEO has enjoyed a very prominent place in Internet marketing circles. Everyone talks about it and knows how important it is. Just in case you haven’t been in the loop, SEO stands for search engine optimization. It’s the process of writing content and designing websites so that they do well in the search engines.
Well, in the last couple of years, everyone has been talking about social media. It seems to be picking up speed. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, StumbleUpon … you name it, there’s a site for it. And if there’s not then someone wants to start one. And they want to make it social.
Which is more important for marketers?
Personally, I don’t think you should do any Internet marketing without SEO. That should be your starting point. But social media marketing is a good addition to any marketing plan. I’ve used it very successfully.
When it comes to small business Internet marketing, the first thing to do is set some goals. If SEO and/or social media marketing seems to fit in with those goals then you should seriously consider pursuing it.
