However, they did manage to capture the front page headlines on today’s Minneapolis Star Tribune. It seems that Target (based here in Minnesota) has hired a group of “Rounders” they call them – folks who are tasked with blogging and making social networking posts endorsing the company and it’s products – nothing wrong with that. Where they went astray is when the company they hired to manage this team asked them to keep the fact that they are being paid by Target a secret. Very bad. In the blogosphere, transparency is valued — having someone make legitimate posts online about your products and services is fine – just be honest about what you’re doing.
Of course, a lot of folks in the blogosphere have caught on to their slip-up, so it will be interesting to watch how the negative publicity takes hold on this one, and how Target deals with it.
